The origin and significance of the name Druid Consulting.

In Celtic mythology the Druid is a symbol of knowledge and wisdom. The name also reflects my Chicago Irish heritage. Knowledge and wisdom are fitting attributes for a computer consulting business. Don't you think?

From time to time I have been attacked by certain ignorant religious zealots for use of the name Druid. To them it is a symbol of new age paganism. I can assure all that there is no religious connotation to the name Druid in context of computer consulting.  The personal computer is non-sectarian device and does not care if it is named Stone Henge or Stone Anchor. The computer is a binary electronic machine and they all work the bloody same (period).

Druidism was the religion of the pre-Christian Celts. Theirs was a tribal society that in some ways parallel the North American indigenous  peoples (Indians).  The Druid was equivalent to the medicine man. In Arthurian legend Merlin is the last Druid. Keep in mind the Romans had paved roads and running water when the British were still living in mud huts.

The Druids kept no written records. Knowledge was passed by poem, song and story. This is important for the following reason. When Julius Caesar conquered the Celts in Europe he converted them to Catholicism by the simple expedient of killing ALL the Druids. No written history, no Druids, no historical bases in fact for modern Druidism. Druids did not dance around Stone Henge in sheets. Stone Henge is a stone age structure and predates the Celts. Therefore modern Druidism is hogwash.

What is stated in the first paragraph is all there is to it. I named the business, I should know.
